When you've committed a crime, how can you make amends? How can you restore the damage and trauma you've inflicted?
The men at Kern Valley State Prison and Lancaster Prison have spearheaded The Giving Back Project -- an initiative to find ways to give back to the communities they've harmed and engender hope.
As part of the The Giving Back Project, the men at Kern Valley State Prison are planning to create a mural which incorporate iconic images of all the communities that the men call home. Avenal State Prison has led the charge, creating scenes of the cities and communities that make California such a special place.
Artists are donating their artwork to create a box of greeting cards to sell around the holidays. Proceeds will be divided up between the various Giving Back Projects.
The men have spent dozens of hours creating Origami art to send messages of hope and positivity to the foster youth in California.
Through song, dance, poetry, movement, music and spoken word, the men hold performances to raise money for their Giving Back Projects
