Day 20 - Self-Forgiveness
When you judge yourself, you tend to believe that who you are is what you have done or not done. Today, hold onto the knowledge that who you are is greater than what you have done. Forgive yourself for forgetting the good that is in you.
Reflection
- When we sit in judgment of other people, countries and races, we are training our minds to sit in judgment of ourselves.
- What are some thoughts and feelings that get in the way of self-forgiveness?
- How has not forgiving yourself kept you from moving forward?
Action
- Write about a time when you forgave another person and how you can offer that same forgiveness to yourself.
- Write down three nice things you can say to yourself and practice saying them throughout the day.
“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”
Mahatma Gandhi
“Forgiveness is not an occasional act, it is a permanent attitude.”
Martin Luther King Jr.
“Forgive yourself first. Let go of past hurts and direct your spirit to goodness and hope by having gratitude.”
Janet Taylor Spence
“No one can or will ever feel your pain as much as you. Forgive yourself for the past, seize the gift of the present moment.”
K.J. Kilton
“It’s one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself, to forgive.”
Maya Angelou
“Forgive yourself for what you think you’ve done or not done. At every moment, you had your reasons for all of your actions and decisions. You’ve always done the best that you could do. Forgive yourself.”
Doreen Virtue
“You cannot travel back in time to fix your mistakes, but you can learn from them and forgive yourself for not knowing better.”
Leon Brown
“Forgive yourself; you are not perfect. Show yourself grace; you are still learning. Show yourself patience; you are on a journey.”
Shannon Yvette Tanner
