UNSERE VISION

Haere mai | Welcome
Tūwhitia te hopo. Mairangatia te angitū!

durch Handeln aus Menschlichkeit

He waka eke noa. We are all in this together!

The Aotearoa team has been working for 4 years to get this life changing workshop project into our prisons. Out of 19 in the country we have made connections to run our workshops in 5 – with already incredible results!

With your help, we plan to be in all prisons by the end of 2028.

The Compassion Prison Project (CPP) is a transformative initiative committed to bringing healing, trauma-awareness, and human connection into correctional institutions.

At the heart of this movement is Trauma Talks, a 16-week curriculum that cultivates compassion, accountability, and personal agency among incarcerated individuals through community building and trauma-informed facilitation.

We thank our volunteers who have done all this work, and now we are ready to pay them, as they have not been paid anything so far!

We celebrate Dr Kyle Van de Bittner for being the founder and CEO of the Aotearoa branch and getting us connected with the prisons here.

Why does Prisoner Education Matter?

It’s one of our most overlooked, highest-impact levers for real social change.

Today, there are 10,000 incarcerated people in Aotearoa;1 with over 50% being Māori. Māori make 15% of our population.

Our reoffending rates are high. Over 50% of people with previous convictions are reconvicted within 2 years following release from prison.

“ The number one reducer of recidivism is learning” – Dr Bruce Perry

Give this a think!

Now we are asking for some financial support to continue this work and
achieve the proven outcomes for our prisoners!

“It made me realise the way I acted throughout the years – It’s had a big
impact on the way I behaved. It’s made me realise and accept my trauma
and how to deal with my trauma.” Participant quote

We see many trusts and donating companies as problem solvers.

So, can’t you be what leadership means today?

We believe you can if you choose!

We can’t build the future while ignoring the people society left behind. So, let’s lead differently!

Your donations to us will see more prisoners experiencing our 16-part
workshops and extensive collaborative wrap-around support that will change
their lives.
